#SomersetStrong

Somerset School is a K - 4 school located in southeast quadrant of Calgary.  At Somerset School our staff, students and parents assume the collective responsibility of ensuring a “welcoming, caring, respectful and safe” learning environment which “respects diversity and nurtures a sense of belonging and positive sense of self” organizing our resources in a cooperative effort to make learning our way of life.

The Somerset School community is dedicated to nurturing the heartmind and spirit of our students.  We embrace the development of these areas by providing students with experiences to expand their abilities to:

1) show kindness and generosity by teaching and modelling the act of assuming good intent and forgiving the mistakes of others.  Generosity involves showing respect for self, others, and the environment(s) we live in.  These actions demonstrate the how we know we are good.

2) show belonging by teaching and modelling how to be friendly and cooperative with others.  These actions demonstrate how important each of us are.

3) show perseverance in times which challenge us both academically and socially.  This requires the development of an emotional vocabulary to support the ability to be self-aware and demonstrate self-control, patience, and independence.  Independence is the action of being responsible for ourselves and our actions.

4) show curiosity and mastery which demonstrates what we are capable of.

Cultivating these experiences supports a school climate which is safe, collaborative, collegial, reflective and adaptive.

The Somerset School community is fueled by the common goal of progressing students along the continuum of becoming "problem solvers, who think critically and are actively engaged in leading healthy lives of meaning."

School Development Plan

Each year, our school prepares a development plan with input from teachers, school staff, students and parents. We review many sources of data, including report cards, provincial achievement test results and school surveys. Based on this information, we create our plan identifying targeted areas for growth. Our school development plan is not meant to represent all of the work that takes place in our school, but rather it focuses on specific areas for improvement.

School Improvement Results Report

Our school also prepares a results plan, which looks at our previous school year. It shows our students’ achievement and progress in meeting the goals and outcomes as set out by the CBE and Alberta Education, outlines some of the highlights of our school development plan and gives an overview of our school. You can look on the CBE website for system-wide results.
