As you’ll recall, earlier this spring, the modular units at Somerset School were relocated. The area where the modulars once stood, on the northeast side of the school, will be paved with asphalt to extend the hard-surface play area of the schoolyard.

This work will be taking place over the next two weekends, weather permitting, and you can expect the following:

  • Heavy machinery will be on site, and during the time slots noted below, the entire school yard (including the playground and fields) will be closed.
  • All asphalt work will take place outside of school hours. The schoolyard will be reopened from Monday, June 2, to Friday, June 6. During the week, only the immediate worksite will remain fenced off as it currently is.
  • On the weekends of May 30 – June 1 and June 6 - 8, construction times will be as follows:
    • Friday, 4:30 PM - 8:00 PM
    • Saturday, 7:30 AM - 8:00 PM
    • Sunday, 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM

Student, staff and public safety remain our top priority. To ensure safety throughout this phase of work, the entire school site will be closed for the above-noted weekends to allow for asphalt paving work. Signage will be placed in and around the site to inform the public of the closure. Additional personnel will be on-site to ensure the safety of pedestrians while work is in progress. Active work zones on the site will be secured with physical barriers such as caution tape and delineators, and on-site staff will be present to prevent unauthorized access. Overnight security will also be in place to monitor the site and protect equipment during non-working hours.

Once the paving is complete, the final landscaping remediation work of the school yard will be completed over the summer months.

Thank you for your patience and support as we make these improvements to provide additional learning spaces across our growing school system.
