Oki Parents and Guardians,
I am excited to share some enriching opportunities and important updates which will enhance our students’ learning experiences this week.
Here is your weekly update!
Indigenous Games Residency with Jaron Weaselbear
Jaron Weaselbear is a passionate advocate for Indigenous sports and culture, and he has made a significant impact in promoting Indigenous Games in Alberta. He has played a key role in organizing and leading Indigenous Games Residencies, which engage students in understanding traditional Indigenous sports and cultural activities.
These experiences offer our students wonderful opportunities to connect with Indigenous heritage while developing important physical skills and teamwork. Through his efforts, Jaron highlights the value of cultural identity, community involvement, and how sports can help foster RESILIENCE among youth.
Big Shout-Out!
A big shout-out to the Friends of Somerset School Foundation for providing another enriching learning experience for our students! We encourage you to consider signing up to support their latest fundraising opportunity. Thank you for your continued support!

We look forward to seeing you there!
Word of the Week - Provoked
As part of our School Development Planning efforts to enhance our students' emotional vocabulary while deepening their understanding of morphology, we are excited to reintroduce the Word of the Week! This vocabulary will help students become more aware of their feelings when certain situations arise and empower them to express their needs in a positive and supportive way.
- Word of the Week - Provoked
- Meaning - When someone makes you angry on purpose.
Problem-Solving Sentence Frame
I feel [emotion]
When [describe the action/behavior], and
I need [suggested action/change]
To support our students in leaning into the Problem-Solving Model for positive communication, here are some prompts to consider:
- When I feel provoked, I calm myself by ...
- What is happening which is making you feel provoked?
- How can you use your words to let someone know they are provoking you and you need them to stop?
Hand to Heart,
Nathan Bane
